Yesterday I completed the Alton 10 mile road race! This was only the second time I'd run over 7.5 miles so I was really nervous before the start. This was obvious because I was very, very quiet!
I am pleased to report that I enjoyed every minute of the run, until about 9.5 miles when it just seemed to get very, very hard. I think battling those hills and finding that we still had one more incline to go was a bit of a moral crusher.
If you'd have told me last year that by May I would be able to run, and I did run the whole course!, 10 miles I would have told you you were mad. I never thought I would get to a place where I would like running, let alone be any good at it so I am pleasantly surprised. I do like it and I am getting a bit better at it.
Being part of a running club helps, and finding someone who you can run with can have a huge impact. It definitely does for me as I find I do things that, were I by myself, I wouldn't even try.
I have now entered two half marathons in the country and the Gambia half marathon date and entry has been released so I will be finishing this first fund raising challenge on Saturday 15th December.... then it is on to the next challenge!
