Ok, so I haven't been writing much lately which totally goes against my vow to keep you all updated but I do have a good excuse - I was in New York! And maybe I could have written whilst I was out there but to be honest, I didn't have time... or a lot of wifi access!
It was a truly amazing trip - very, very different to The Gambia as you would expect and although I did have a few pangs of guilt that maybe I shouldn't be spending all this money on a holiday when there is so much to be done for the school and the Bantaba project, I got over them. As my friends said, you can't deny yourself every pleasure in life and it does help everyone in the end as everyone needs a break and I do feel completely re charged - or I will as soon as the jet lag wears off!
I went for a week with my best friend, Miss A, and we had the best time. We didn't manage to do everything but we certainly did a lot. I'd forgotten just how much I love the city and it was nice to be reminded. It is certainly one place everyone should go in their lifetime. It is electric. Some of my favourite things included:
- The circleline boat tour.
- Brunch at Max Brenners on Broadway (Chocolate by the bald guy).
- The top of the rock during the day.
- Going up the Empire State (all the way to the 102nd floor) and watching the sunset and the lights of the city come on.
- Rare View rooftop cocktail bar with a view of the Empire State.
- The Flatiron building.
- The way all the big stores can't wait to give you a visitors discount!
... I could go on and on but you get the idea!
Now, back to reality...and running! xXx
